Violent Crime Consortium Keeps Public Safety at Forefront

The Northern Ohio Violent Crime Consortium (NOVCC) recently brought together more than 100 regional law enforcement participants, representing more than 20 agencies, to take part in a region-wide initiative to discuss public safety. The annual event is hosted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the Northern District of Ohio. The District covers the 40 northern-most counties in the state of Ohio, which is home to more than 5.7 million people. READ MORE…

As part of a course highlighting resources available to law enforcement agencies, Amanda and Charley discussed the first thirty years of crime analysis and the BJA CAR program. This week, we hosted the Crime Analyst in Residence (CAR) Regional Meeting. Blacksburg Police graduated from this program in 2023 and had the privilege of hosting this year’s meeting.
The CAR Program, a Bureau of Justice Assistance grant, is designed to help law enforcement agencies expand their use of data analysis and analytics to manage their operations and practices.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) provides tailored resources specifically for law enforcement in small, rural, and tribal communities to help agencies reduce crime and keep their communities safe through effective community policing practices (additional tribal-specific resources can be found on the Tribal Community Policing Resources page).
