Improving Analysis - Advancing Fair, Just, and Effective Policing
Gentry Schaffer is an expert in practitioner research in numerous criminal justice areas, including policing, procedural justice, and program evaluation. Among her recent research topics are the use of forensic investigative technology to solve backlogged sexual assault kits and cold case homicides, gun violence reduction strategies, and reducing sentencing disparities among similarly situated offenders in the federal criminal justice system.
Before joining CNA, Schaffer was senior consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton, providing performance management and subject matter expertise for a variety of US Department of Justice initiatives. She also has experience as a crime analyst, forensic investigator, and academic.
Schaffer volunteered as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, while completing a fellowship with Georgetown University Law Center, receiving a certification in Law Enforcement and Police Administration. She holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Sam Houston State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin.
